Notes 02 / 04
Pattern, sample, then bulk
Technical → Pattern → Sampling
Bulk fabric is expensive to get wrong.
The pattern is the first real version of the garment — not a drawing, a set of pieces that have to fit a body and sew cleanly. We cut a sample from that pattern, fit it, and write down what failed: length, ease, a pocket that sits wrong, a neckline that will not lie.
Those notes go back into the pattern. Sometimes once. Sometimes a few rounds. That is the work. Skipping it does not save time; it moves the mistakes into production, where they cost more and are harder to undo.
Only when the sample is approved do we grade sizes and release the cut. The approved sample is the standard. Production is measured against it, not against the original sketch.
This is why sampling sits in the middle of the path, not at the end as a courtesy. Idea, design and technical work have to arrive here before anyone cuts volume.
